Piazza Navona, Rome

The artist chooses a convergent perspective to give depth to the work. The decentralization of the vanish point causes the composition to be slanted diagonally, which gives greater dynamism to the composition.

The plaza's ground appears to be unpaved. It was common in the time that the streets and plazas were of tamped earth.

The plaza was one of most popular of Rome. In this detail its use as an exchange center can be seen, as a market.

This fountain is known as the Four Rivers of Bernini, and is located in front of the Sant'Agnese Church in Agone that Borromini built next to the Pamphili Palace, remodeled by Rainaldi. The shape of the plaza is faithful to the original one of the Agonalis Circus, on which it was constructed.
